Book Week At Taronga Zoo 2009!!!

On the 25th of August 2009, my school (Father John Therry) made a long trip to Taronga Zoo for Book Week. Mrs. McQuade decided to make the theme ‘safari’.

Shortly after Miss Hooper did the roll, we started our parade down Darling Street in our safari costumes. We made our down to Thames Street Wharf where two ferries came to pick up one half of the school each to ride to Taronga Zoo.

Following this, we made our way up the massive amount of stairs to the entrance of the zoo. Directly after, we ate our recess at our meeting spot which was called Concert Lawns.

Immediately after we ate, we all walked quickly to the Seal Show where we met Mitchy, Marly, Lexie and the very small Ronnie who showed us their tricks and skills their trainers had taught them. It was incredibly funny and entertaining.

After this, Year Six walked over to Village School, where we met our teacher who taught us all about the endangered animals in Taronga Zoo and how we can help prevent them from becoming extinct. She also brought along with her some animals, which were: a corn snake, a frog, a lizard, two possums and finally Crash the Bandicoot. She told us all about them and why they are endangered.

Right after Village School, we watched the elephants stomp around. We then walked up the hill to eat our lunch and take some pictures of us with our cameras.

Just before we left to walk around the Zoo, we watched the other elephants play soccer, carry around logs with their trunks and do all kinds of tricks. We also met the new baby elephant called Luk Chai and the mother Tong Dee.

We then headed off to walk around Taronga Zoo and spotted many animals which were: Meerkats, Snow Leopards, Tigers, Bears, Mountain Goats, Gorillas and Monkeys. We were upset when we had to leave to walk back to the ferry.

Once we arrived back at Thames Street Wharf, we had to walk quickly back to school because the bell had already sounded.

This years Book Week was fantastic! It was the best Book Week and I hope to go to Taronga Zoo again to see all the animals in the Zoo.
